What Type Of Fan To Get?
Portable fans can be of many types. Some of them are powered exclusively using a USB cable while others use a power adapter. The most convenient ones are the models that use rechargeable batteries. Battery operated fans have a bit of extra mobility mainly because they do not need to be connected with a cable to the power source. Also, some models can work with power adapters as well. These type of fans that work with batteries or with power adapters tend to be a bit more expensive which is understandable but they will prove to be the most useful ones.
Best Battery Operated Fans in 2018
Our main focus has been on selecting some decent battery operated fans. Sadly there are not all that many different models to choose from which made the search a bit difficult. Also, it can be a bit confusing to see the exact same fan under different names and with different pricing. To make things easier we trimmed down the list to just 10 battery operated fans that are actually worth spending money on. Without wasting too much time let’s have a quick look at what has been selling well and why.
10. Rasse FB96 4-inch Portable Fan
The Rasse FB96 portable fan offers several advantages but what will appeal the most to some is how compact it is. It was made to be easy to pack and works quite well using a small electric motor and a clever design that helps it push more air. It can be used for pretty much anything including a barbecue, taking it on camping trips or even using it to help prevent the hands from sweating when working at a computer.
For such a small fan the model does come with several interesting features. It has three different speed levels and an on and off switch. Being a portable fan means that it is also powered but a rechargeable battery. A full charge should last for about 8 hours and when the batteries run out it can be powered using a USB cable. The body of the fan is made out of plastic and comes with a decent price tag.
- Can be powered by a battery or using a USB cable
- Poor fin design that could have been done better to get better performance

OPOLAR has several great little portable fans and their F101 is a great example of a practical accessory that will prove to be useful for pretty much anyone. In fact, it can run on a 18650 battery without any kind of issues.
The manufacturers designed the fan to work with both batteries or using a USB cable. A regular 18650 battery cell should provide several hours of usage before getting drained completely. The bottom side of the fan hosts a small panel that can be used to adjust the speed setting. At the top, it has a small cutout that makes it easy to hang the fan in a fixed position.
- Very compact
- Easy to use

Other than that it is quite simple and offers the option to adjust the speed with just the push of a button.
In terms of design, the fan has an appealing look. It has a white cover on the front while the rest is made out of a black matte plastic. It is compact, lightweight, well constructed and very easy to pack. In fact, it is one of the smallest models on our list but it is much more convenient due to its very small size which makes it suitable for gamers that want to keep their hands from sweating.
The fan itself has a simple design with a folding stand. When not folded it takes almost no space at all. The fan speed, unfortunately, is not adjustable. The manufacturers used a rechargeable battery pack. On a full charge, it is estimated that they can power the fan for about 72 hours which is more than impressive. When the batteries are depleted the fan can be powered using an adapter that is included in the kit. The only turnoff is the fact that the fan is a bit more expensive when compared to other models on our list. Other than that it is a great choice for pretty much anyone.

In terms of construction, the model is quite well made. It has a protective cover that goes over the fins and a small stand that also serves as a clip. The position and angle of the fan can be adjusted. The fan speed can be adjusted as well while the fan blades can reach rotating speeds of up to 2200 RPM. It is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery pack and works with a micro USB cable as well.

The model also works with a USB cable that can also charge the battery. In terms of a fan, speed the model has two modes to select from.
- Compact and lightweight
- Can reach very high fan spin speeds
- Multiple fan speeds
- Construction makes it feel a bit cheap
3. Coleman Freestanding Tent Fan
The Coleman freestanding tent fan clearly targets people that enjoy spending time out in nature. It is a fan that was designed for camping with a sturdy construction and a very powerful electric motor. To power the device the fan will need D-cell batteries that are not included in the kit and will need to be purchased separately.
One the first things that can be noticed about the fan is that it does not have a protective mesh over the blades. However, this should not be a problem as the motor is not powerful enough to cause injuries. On the other hand, not having a mesh over the blades can optimize the fan to push as much air as possible. A new set of batteries should provide enough power to keep the fan going for around 21 hours.
- Works with replaceable D-cell batteries
- Very powerful
- Sturdy construction
- No protection from the spinning fan blades

Powering the device, two D-cell batteries will be required. If we were to think about what can be considered a con is the fact that the fan cannot be powered using a USB cable. Other than that it is a great little fan that can be used at the office or when going out for camping.
- Very affordable
- Works only on batteries
Things To Keep In Mind
Some portable fans out there are very poorly made. Their construction makes them look cheap and very fragile but that does not mean they are not powerful enough. Still, these models should be avoided since there are several great portable fans to choose from.
Before rushing to buy a portable fan it is important to have a look at some of their features. There are models that do not offer adjustable fan speeds and there are even models that cannot be powered using a USB cable. It is a good idea to just check all these things and avoid assuming that a fan will do something when in reality it might not. For our list, we managed to select a decent variation of battery operated fans that should be enough in order for anyone to find something suitable and within their budget limits.
