Ever since the GoPro series of action cameras was introduced the world has been taken by storm. The quality of the camera and its compact form size proved to be a major success. Also its decent price tag made it an affordable gadget for pretty much anyone. Since then, multiple iterations were introduced and each one had several improvements.

The biggest asset that GoPro cameras have is their compact form factor. They are easy to carry around and just as easy to use. With a harness or mount, GoPro cameras can be attached to a chest, bike, helm and many other items making it easy to capture amazing footage. The only concern is for the battery to last long enough and the camera to have enough storage. Batteries are probably the main concern.

Are Aftermarket Batteries For The GoPro Any Good?

In simple words, yes! Aftermarket batteries for the GoPro Hero series of cameras are a decent option for several reasons. The first reason is the price. They can actually be a bit more affordable. The ones sold directly by GoPro are more expensive. Also, aftermarket cameras can have a larger capacity which is also helpful. Last but not least, getting a bundle made out of a couple of batteries and a charger can save a lot of money. The only concern is to make sure it fits. GoPro has a bad habit of using different batteries for each model of their HERO cameras. This means that an older battery will not fit a newer model.

To make things worse, some batteries for a particular model might not even work with a certain firmware version. It makes things a bit complicated. Today we will go through a small list of 10 different batteries for various models of GoPro HERO cameras. With no further ado here are the top 10 best rechargeable batteries for GoPro in 2024.

Things To Keep In Mind

Usually, a bundle of 2 or 3 rechargeable batteries for a GoPro camera made by a third-party manufacturer goes for a much lower price than an original OEM one. At first, this sounds great but there are some tradeoffs. Some cells tend to get a bit warmer than the original ones. There is nothing too alarming but this seems to be happening in some cases. The second tradeoff is the fact that in most cases, the aftermarket cells do not last as long. However, they cost a third of the price of an original OEM battery thus making it much more lucrative to get 3 aftermarket cells than just one original cell.

One final thing to take note is that the batteries for one model will not fit any other GoPro camera. Also, in some cases, GoPro attempted to push software updates that made the camera stop working with aftermarket cells. This is a shady practice but third-party manufacturers managed to make their cells avoid this rather unpopular move from GoPro.
